You may have seen some restaurants and bars in East Aurora already switching from plastic to paper straws. Now that may be a law that every establishment will have to adopt in East Aurora.

According to The Buffalo News, a public hearing will be held on August 19th that will weigh the sentiment for the proposed Environmental Stability law.

The law would force restaurants in East Aurora to switch away from plastic items. They would have four months to implement changes. Some places have already adopted the law and switched to biodegradable material, according to officials.

The penalties for not adhering to the potential in-place law would be a warning for a first-time offense; a $100 fine for a second offense; $200 offense for a third-time offense and so on.

The exact time of the hearing on August 19th will be at 7 p.m. at Village Hall on Main Street in East Aurora.
