Pot Drop From the Sky Goes Awry

It was like something from out of a movie.  In theory it was a clever plan to use a helicopter to transport a large quantity of marijuana from Canada where it's legal to  New York State where it's illegal.  Problem was the Border Patrol assigned to Grand Island saw the whole thing.

The helicopter aroused suspicion when it was flying at a low altitude over a parking lot at Beaver Island State Park.  When Border Patrol agents investigated they found four large red duffel bags containing 108 pounds of marijuana in sealed plastic bags.

The estimated street value of the pot is well over $150,000.

No arrests have been made, but federal, state and local police agencies are investigating where it came from and the owner of the helicopter.
