Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’ Tour Bus Is Going Up for Auction
The bus used by Prince on his Purple Rain tour is on the auction block.
It's listed on Mecum as part of a lot of collector's cars that will be sold in Houston on Dec. 3-5. There's no mention of the starting bid or what is expected to be the selling price. You can see pictures of it below.
According to the listing, the 1983 Eagle Model 10 was custom-built and designed for Prince. There are purple accents throughout, including the exterior trim, curtains, the backsplash in the kitchen. and the interior lighting. However, it has since been modernized with a Wifi sound system -- including a Denon receiver and Sonos amplifier -- a flat-screen TV and a Blu-ray player.
The bus sleeps six, via twin bunks, a couch that pulls out to a double bed and a master suite that's also equipped with its own air conditioning and stereo system. Its captain's chairs came from a private jet, and other seats are made from high-grade soft leather. The kitchen has an electric range with a glass cooktop, a combination convection oven/microwave and a separate refrigerator and freezer. It also has a full bathroom, complete with a shower and sink. Patio lights and stands are included, and there is a hookup to fit a 40-inch TV for outdoor viewing.
Throughout its history, the bus has always been used as a private coach and been stored inside. It comes with all documentation, including service records and manuals.
