According to WIVB, Regal Cinemas' parent company, Cineworld, said this past weekend it is considering closing ALL of Regal Theaters in the United States and the U.K.

This announcement comes after the postponement of the new James Bond movie left a huge hole in movie theater schedules, which was already barren.

According to Cineworld:

“...considering the temporary closure of our U.K. and U.S. cinemas, but a final decision has not yet been reached.”

The company said once a decision is made, it will update and inform staff and customers.

The Sunday Times reported that Cineworld would shut down their U.K. and Ireland theaters, putting over 5,000 people temporarily out of work.

The vast majority of major releases have been pushed until 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, leaving Regal and other theaters few new releases to show.

“If these reports are true, then the first people Cineworld should be informing are their staff who will suffer as a result — not the Sunday newspapers,” said Philippa Childs, head of the entertainment workers’ union BECTU.

This of course would mean the Regal theaters in Western New York would also close temporarily, although they have been closed since March. Who knows when they would reopen if this indeed happens...
