Sean McDermott has been a fixture in Buffalo since his arrival in 2017. He ended the Bills 17 17-year playoff drought. He has taken the team to 2 AFC championships and 5 straight AFC East division titles. While he's yet to get them to the Super Bowl, hopes are high. He is the second-most-winning coach in team history, only trailing the legendary Marv Levy.

When you think of Sean, you think of Buffalo. However, his roots in other places still influence him today.

Sean McDermott's Previous Stops

The Bills became his first head coaching job in the NFL, but not his first job in it, of course. Sean began his career in Philadelphia as the Assistant to then-head coach Andy Reid. He worked his way up the ladder to become the team's defensive coordinator in 2009. He then went on to be the defensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers from 2011 to 2016, helping them to the Super Bowl. That ultimately earned him his head coaching job with the Bills.

Despite his time in Buffalo and Carolina,  his roots in Philadelphia have never gone away. Only now they are for a different kind of football.

Why Was Sean McDermott At a Soccer Game?

Sean's brother, Tim, is also in pro sports. He is the Chief Business Officer for the Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer. As a result, Sean has always rooted for the Union and his brother. He was at a recent match and spoke with a sideline reporter about it.

Though not MLS, pro soccer is coming to Buffalo soon. It'll be interesting to see if players on teams like the Bills and Sabres come out to support it.

It's awesome to see Sean support his family. He has built an excellent team culture that makes players feel like part of a family. Things like this show you why.
