18oving to a new city can be a shock. If you've got a preconceived notion of the way things would be, you might be surprised when it's not quite the truth.

It can be funny to listen to someone who isn't from Buffalo describe it.  The weather is cold...all we eat is wings and all we drink is Tim Horton's coffee...and we live and breathe Buffalo Bills football, right?  That's it in a nutshell?  Well...kind of, but even that isn't all true.

Put the shoe on the other foot for a second. There's a good chance that you have a guess about what cities in other parts of the country are like.  There's also a good chance that you're completely wrong.  Until you've lived somewhere for awhile, it's hard to really get a feel for the place, the people, the food, and the culture.

One thing is for sure, there are plenty of things that people think about our city that are just not true.  And for people who live here (and maybe have all their lives, like me) there are things that we tend to think about our city that aren't true either.  I learned this from asking people who recently moved to Buffalo what their biggest shock was after being here for a year or so.

Some of them make you proud to live where you do.  Others are a little disheartening.  To have people move here and say that everything you believed about the people isn't necessarily true can be a tough pill to swallow.  Luckily, not all of these things are fact.  They're the opinion of a few people.  But it's interesting to see our city through someone else's eyes sometimes too.
