Was there a better comedy than Airplane? Leslie Nielson made himself a comedy icon when he uttered the line “I am serious, and don’t call me Shirley.” The line is the most famous of his career, that also includes roles as a dramatic actor, which is pretty hard to believe now. I can’t count how many times I’ve watched Airplane, and it still makes me laugh everytime. I also fondly remember Police Squad, which had a short run on CBS in the early 80’s. It was from the makers of Airplane, and eventually would lead to the Naked Gun franchise. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to watch the Naked Gun movies since the whole OJ thing. I prefer the TV series anyway. It was highly underrated and shouldn’t have been cancelled so quickly. With Leslie Nielson’s passing we lose a very funny character actor. Nielson played the straight man like nobody else and he nailed this genre of comedy. Since you've already seen Airplane about 80 times, how about you watch scenes from the Pilot episode of  TV's original Police Squad from 1982:
