‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ First Look: See What the Turtles and Shredder Look Like! [UPDATE]
We've seen a lot of images that were reported to be the "first look" at the 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' movie (including some Halloween costumes that were completely off), but last night the real deal appeared online. A few spy shots leaked to Reddit including your first look at Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, Michelangelo and Shredder. And, you know what? They don't look horrible!
These are not the best quality photos you can have (a reliable source tells us a more official reveal is coming very soon), but they do give us a sense of where the Michael Bay-produced film is going. Overall, considering some of the larger mistakes they could've made (beaks, for example), these look pretty faithful to the characters with some minor upgrades and additions. It's not easy to take characters like the Ninja Turtles and Shredder and adapt them to the real world without them having look completely ridiculous, and this probably the best you're going to do.
The best photo we have is of Leonardo, wearing a bamboo vest and, judging from the "Nike" on his arm guard, some makeshift armor. An additional blurry pic shows Raphael is wearing a full head wrap, instead of just the eye mask. As for Shredder? Well, he looks like Shredder. A big dude wearing a suit made up almost entirely of blades. There's a sort-of skull overlay on the front of his mask, which is a nice touch.
What will be really important for the 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' movie (which has received more than its fair share of criticism and scrutiny from fanboys) is how the Turtles actually move and act. The film was shot with four actors on set in motion-capture outfits and CGI will be used to turn their performances into the four turtles. How that work is done will largely determine whether this film is a success or not.
At least based on these photos, we can say, "so far, so good." At least as good as a Michael Bay-produced 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' movie could be.
[UPDATE: The images have been removed from the web, so we hope you got your fill already. We'll update as soon as they're back online.]
