The Buffalo Bills are putting their week 3 win against The Washington Football Team behind them and are now focusing on their upcoming game with the Houston Texans. The game will be played at Highmark Stadium this Sunday at 1 pm.

The Bills are now 2-1 after their victory over Washington. They currently sit atop the AFC East and are in a six-way tie in the AFC standings.

However, the scoreboard was friendly to the Bills this past Sunday. Going into the 2021 regular season, most people would have agreed that the one team standing in the Bills' way are the Kansas City Chiefs: after all, they defeated the Bills in the AFC title game last year and they have the best quarterback and offense in the league.

Don't look now, but the Chiefs have had struggled through the first three weeks of the season. They lost to the Los Angeles Chargers in week 3 and before that, lost to the Baltimore Ravens. The Chiefs beat the Cleveland Browns in week 1, but the Browns led the majority of that game and you could argue the Chiefs "should" have lost that game as well.

The Chiefs' defense is the biggest worry for them. They're tied for the most points allowed in the NFL through the first three weeks with the Detroit Lions (95). Their number one wide receiver, Tyreek Hill, has been largely made irrelevant the last two weeks as well.

The start of the season and the lack of depth behind the likes of Hill, Travis Kelce, and Mecole Hardman is likely why Kansas City went out and signed free agent wide receiver Josh Gordon, who was just reinstated by the NFL.

The Chiefs are a game back of the Bills at 1-2 and they play one another in week 5 on Sunday Night Football.

The Bills should beat the Texans on Sunday and it's likely the Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles, which means the record stays with a one-game lead for the Bills.

If the Bills beat Kansas City on the road in week 5, that would create a two-game cushion in the standings and Bills fans would likely be dreaming of an AFC standings crown and an AFC playoff that runs through Orchard Park.

The rest of the AFC doesn't look as great as it did before the season.

The Baltimore Ravens have had their own struggles and needed a 66-yard field goal to beat the Detroit Lions. The Tennessee Titans have had problems on defense and now their number one wide receiver, A.J. Brown is hurt.

The Steelers, Dolphins, and Patriots don't look great and the only 3-0 teams are the Las Vegas Raiders and Denver Broncos; the latter is dealing with a host of injuries on offense.

The best-looking team in the AFC, other than the Bills, is probably the Cleveland Browns (who are also 2-1).

The Bills have a favorable schedule too. After the road night games against the Chiefs and Titans, things get much easier. They play the Jaguars, Dolphins, Jets (twice), Patriots (twice), Colts, Saints, Buccaneers, Panthers, and Falcons.

Other than Tampa Bay, that is just about as easy as a schedule could look for an NFL team with Super Bowl aspirations.

We're not saying the Bills are the current favorites to represent the AFC, but the road to the Super Bowl is clearly open in 2021.
