The Worst Buffalo Sports Day in a Long Time

Think back to what were the worst days in Buffalo sports history? It's not long before you get to July 1st, 2007 (that's when the Sabres lost both Danny Briere and Chris Drury, three hours apart in free agency), the heartbreaking losses by both the Bills and Sabres over the last 35 years, and maybe when the Sabres filed for bankruptcy when former owner John Rigas was arrested.

Yesterday was probably not the worst Buffalo sports day ever, but it was still not the greatest by a long shot.

Yes, the Bills got blown out by the Indianapolis Colts, 41-15 in a game that felt over from the first quarter on.  The Bills run defense got torched for over 200 yards and the offense sputtered. It dropped the Bills to second place in the AFC East -- a half-game back of the New England Patriots.

That's not the only heartbreak that Buffalo sports fans went through on Sunday.

The Buffalo Sabres lost 5-4 to the New York Rangers. Unlike the Bills, the Sabres actually played pretty decently and had a hard-fought game.

Unfortunately, the Rangers scored the game-winning goal with 0.4 seconds left in regulation. Yes, you heard that right, 0.4 seconds.

To be fair, the Sabres probably deserved to lose since they tried to kill the clock in the last 20 seconds, as Tage Thompson attempted to keep the puck along the boards.

It squirted out and a wide open Rangers defenceman, Ryan Lindgren, who put the puck in the empty net.

It was a downright awful night. I can't remember the last time the Bills and Sabres both lost awful games in the same day.
