Wegmans Recalling Their Lemon Dill Finishing Butter

Wegmans has announced a recall of their Wegmans-brand Lemon Dill Finishing Butter, which is sold in dozens of their stores across the northeast, including Western New York. 

The Lemon Dill Finishing Butter, a popular addition to steaks, vegetables, and bread, is being recalled due to the butter being possibly contaminated with listeria. The potentially-affected butter has a UPC of 7789044324. 

The Mayo Clinic describes listeria as a type of bacteria that, when eaten, can cause foodborne illness in humans and animals. Most healthy people rarely become sick from listeria infection, but mild symptoms include nausea, fever, diarrhea, and muscle aches. However, listeria can be extremely dangerous for people over 65, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems. In extreme cases, the listeria infection can spread to your nervous system, leading to headaches, convulsions, loss of balance, confusion, and even death. 

If you shopped at a Western New York Wegmans recently and bought their Lemon Dill Finishing Butter, check it to see if it matches the UPC number above. If it does, either throw it away immediately (and try not to cry) or take it to the Wegmans customer service desk for a full refund.
