Bills fans are getting annoyed that one of the Bills' family members has gone on X to get him more money.

Negotiations in the NFL are tricky enough. The last thing you need is family members making it harder.  But what if they've been through it before?

As a fan, it's so hard to watch athletes you love start to take their negotiations for a new contract and make them public.  It almost always feels greedy.  They make tons of money already, and now they're asking for more?

What a lot of people forget is that NFL careers don't normally last that long.  Players need to make as much money as they can before their time in the league is up.  So when it's contract time, you need to do whatever you think you need to do to get that money.

James Cook is still waiting on a contract extension

It appears as though the relationship between the Bills and running back James Cook isn't on level ground.  Both parties appear to be standing their ground.  Cook has one more year on his contract and through some of his social media posts, it appears that he's asking for more money.  The Bills haven't budged yet.  Even though they've already extended many players and even brought some back that they had previously cut, an extension for Cook doesn't look like it's in their plans anytime soon.

James Cook's brother has joined in

Now, James Cook's brother Dalvin has joined in.  He reposted a post from Adam Schefter that James hadn't appeared at the team's voluntary offseason workouts with a simple sentence "$20M per 100 100"

Dalvin Cook signed to the practice squad for the Dallas Cowboys in August.  He's been through this before too.  In June of 2020 he threatened to hold out from all offseason activities and training camp if he didn't receive a reasonable deal.  By September he got a 5-year $63 million extension.

It feels like Bills Mafia is over it

Some of the responses on his post showed that they didn't support the way that Cook was going about it.

You have to wonder if it's Dalvin's experience and influence that is making James do this publicly.  It worked for Dalvin.  Will it work for James?

This weekend could be an indicator.  The NFL Draft starts today. The Bills already have 4 running backs on their roster (including Cook, Ray Davis, Ty Johnson, and Darrynton Evans). It would be a shock to see them take a running back this weekend, but if they do, could it be a sign that they're prepared to move on without James Cook?
