Western New York currently has the honor of being the region in New York State with the highest COVID-19 positivity rate. Governor Hochul released her daily COVID-19 report yesterday, with data for October 31, 2021. The 7-day average here in WNY is not good. WNY is more than double the statewide 7-day average. It's also one of five regions with 7-day averages over 4 percent and one of just two regions with 7-day averages of more than 5 percent.

Statewide - 2.19%
Western New York - 5.50%

Capital Region - 3.74%
Central New York - 4.38%
Finger Lakes - 4.87%
Long Island - 2.13%
Mid-Hudson - 1.70%
Mohawk Valley - 4.58%
New York City - 0.97%
North Country - 5.14%
Southern Tier - 3.24%

As you can see from the reported 7-day average positivity rates above, WNY is leading all regions. Overall, half of the state isn't doing so well either. Central New York, Finger Lakes, Mohawk Valley, North County, and WNY regions all currently have rates over 4 percent. WNY and the North Country are both over 5 percent.

Gov. Hochul continues to encourage New Yorkers to get vaccinated to help lessen the spread of COVID-19,

"After a month of monumental progress with vaccinations and keeping our infection numbers down, let's continue to build on our efforts," Governor Hochul said. "As we look ahead to Thanksgiving, I want to remind everyone that the best protection for your friends and family against the virus is to get vaccinated as soon as you can."
