An Amherst man who tried to poison his co-worker has been sentenced to prison. Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced that the 41-year-old man was sentenced before Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case. Jason M. Keenan of the Town of Amherst will spend 6 years in prison. After he is released, he will serve 4 years of post-release supervision. On April 5, 2022, Keenan pleaded guilty to one count of Attempted Assault in the First Degree for the poisoning.

On December 19, 2021, Keenan tried to poison his co-worker. He poured a cleaning agent into the victim's drink, with the intent to cause serious injury. The cleaning agent he used was not named. His co-worker drank the beverage and became sick. The incident took place at a restaurant on Niagara Falls Boulevard in Amherst where both Keenan and the victim were employed.

The victim went WNY Immediate Care and was then taken to Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital for emergency treatment.

The victim was later transferred to Buffalo General Hospital where he remained in the intensive care unit for several days for caustic injury to his throat. The victim has since recovered from the injury.

No motive for the poisoning was mentioned by the D.A.
