4-Day Work Week Could Come To These Workers in New York
There have been rumblings since the pandemic that switching to a four-day work week for full-time employees could happen. Or, at least, many want it to happen. And why not? It doesn't work for every industry necessarily, but for many people with traditional 9 to 5 sort of roles, it has proven to be an overwhelmingly good thing. Just check out THIS research from the American Psychological Association, CLICK HERE.
The Benefits of a 4-Day Work Week
Having more time is good for workers. They can recover more effectively, handle their own responsibilities better, and thus are WAY more productive. Businesses that have tried this are more productive and profitable. They also keep more employees rather than losing them to other roles.
The problem is, well, tradition. This is simply how it's been, and changing things like this is very difficult. However, these workers may get to experience a 4-day work week soon, and it's a lot of them living in New York State.
4-Day Work Week Could Come To These Workers in New York
According to a report from WKBW, there is a big push in Albany to make all full-time state employees work 4-day work weeks instead of 5 days. Assemblymember Phara Souffrant Forrest is the biggest voice behind the movement. The report states that having State Employees start having shorter weeks is just the beginning.
This is NOT a done deal and is simply being pushed.
Why This Could be a Bad Idea
While there are more positives than negatives, it may not be a good idea. Emphasis on COULD. This part is all opinion, but a good number of people today are often all about getting theirs, meaning they don't support things they don't get, even if it could be good for them in the long run. Plus, there's a lot of negativity around government employees. So, if people see government employees get something like this before they do, it probably won't go very well. Maybe it won't matter to most people, that's just a thought I had about this.
