Dr. Thomas Russo of the UB Jacobs School of Medicine recently told the WKBW-TV that we may be hitting the plateau in the current wave of COVID cases due to the Delta variant.

Russo has become a local expert for Covid-19 reporting – Western New York's version of Dr. Anthony Fauci.

According to the state Department of Health, just under 200 people tested positive for COVID-19 on September 11th.  Does that mean we are seeing progress?

Russo says the community needs to work together to lessen the chance of infection.

It's important to note that this weekend we also saw 70,000 people attend a Buffalo Bills game.  What effect this may have remains to be seen.

“The delta variant is so infectious that a bills game still poses a risk since many people will be in closed quarters for a prolonged period of time,” Dr. Russo said.

Experts say, even if you’re vaccinated, in a crowded situation, it’s always best to wear a mask.

In a statement, Governor Kathy Hochul again urged New Yorkers to get vaccinated.

Dr. Russo said taking safety measures such as getting vaccinated and staying home if you don’t feel well, can help make sure students get a full school year.

All New York State mass vaccination sites are open to eligible residents, no appointment necessary. For the site nearest you, visit vaccines.gov.
