Best Old Fashioned Found Here In Western New York
The classic drink isn't made the same everywhere. These are the best spots in Buffalo.
There's a good chance you just said, "Old Fashioned what?" If you did, keep reading. This is the kind of drink you'll think about all week. Let me start by saying that I'm no authority on bourbon. I actually know very little about it. If I were pressured to name two bourbon brands off the top of my head, I would probably fail. However, I have recently fallen in love with the cocktail they call an "Old Fashioned."

I even had to look up whether they were called Old Fashioneds or Old Fashions. And yes, it's the first one.
What is an Old Fashioned?
In its most basic definition, a classic Old Fashioned is a cocktail made with whiskey (normally bourbon or rye) that is mixed with simple syrup and bitters and a fruit garnish (cherry and orange peel). It got its name because people used to order their drinks and say, "Make it the old-fashioned way."
The reason why some places have better Old Fashioneds than others is the way that they're made. Some people like to muddle the fruit (that's how I like it). Others just garnish the drink with the fruit. Some add a sugar cube instead of the simple syrup. Some like to add different flavors like peach or sweet tea or even smoke them to spice it up a little. Everyone can put their own spin on it to make it their own.
