BREAKING: No UB Sports Happening This Fall
Per an apparently unanimous decision on the part of the teams in the conference, the MAC (Mid-American Conference) has decided to forgo the 2020 fall season for all sports--which of course includes the University at Buffalo.
According to WKBW, the fall season has been canceled for all sports due to COVID-19 health and safety concerns. For the University at Buffalo, that means men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, women's field hockey, women's volleyball and of course football will not play this season.
The conference has already begun to make plans to play out the spring 2021 athletic seasons, but as of right now no decision has been made on the fate of winter sports.
The MAC was the first major FBS conference to cancel fall sports, but many believe that they are just the first domino to fall, and that many conferences across the country will follow their lead. According to Yahoo Sports the presidents of all Big Ten schools (including notables like the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, and Penn State University among others) are meeting on Saturday afternoon to discuss how the conference will proceed for the rest of 2020.
“If one major conference or two say we’re not playing, the others have a hard decision to make,” a conference commissioner told Yahoo Sports.
We won't be able to see our UB Bulls on any field fall, but we're still holding out hope for the 2020-2021 men's and women's winter sports.
