Buffalo Bills Will Open New Highmark Stadium On Thursday Night
It is now official, we know who the Buffalo Bills will face in the first-ever game at the new Highmark Stadium. While the official Buffalo Bills and NFL schedule won't be released until this Thursday, May 14th, the team did announce who the first-ever opponent will be at their brand new stadium.
Buffalo Bills Will Host Detroit Lions In First Game Ever At New Highmark Stadium
That means the Bills will open the season on the road in Week 1 of the season before coming back home for the home opener in Week 2.
NFL And Buffalo Bills Make Mistake With Bills Home Opener
I think the NFL and the Bills are missing a big chance to create a major rivalry in the AFC East. I really thought that the NFL would have the Bills host the New England Patriots in the first-ever game at the new Highmark Stadium. If they had opened the season with that game during primetime, they would have had the whole country tuning in, and it could really reignite a rivalry between the two teams.

The Patriots beat the Bills for the AFC East last year and ended up in the Super Bowl, which many experts thought would be the Bills. Having the Bills host the Pats in their first-ever game could have set the tone for the season. The Bills win, they are the favorites for the AFC East again, the Pats win, and it could have meant last season was no fluke, and they are the team to beat in the AFC East.
Now we just get another game against the Lions that may not even have an impact on the playoffs. What do you think, did the NFL miss a chance with this home opener opponent, or are you glad they are taking on the Lions?
