Where The Buffalo Bills’ Defense is Getting Crushed
It's no secret that the Buffalo Bills are struggling on defense this season. It feels like they can never get off the field, and like 3rd and long might as well be a first down, somehow. However, where they really struggle is in the run defense.
Bills Run Defense At the Bottom of the League
The Bills are ranked 31st in the NFL in Run defense. An atrocious number that's killing their ability to stop teams. But, specifically, this is where they get hurt in the run game, according to Dan Orlovsky:
Bills' Run Defense is Terrible Vs. Motion
The Bills' run defense is horrific against motion, i.e., when the opposing team sends a man in motion before the snap.

Bills Defense Not as Bad as It May Seem
Despite the defense being poor in the run game, the offense excels in the pass game. They are ranked 2nd in the NFL in pass defense. Overall, they have the 12th-ranked defense in the NFL. So, it's not as bad as it may seem to some. Still, their run defense is so bad that it needs to improve in a hurry if they are going to be a true contender. At least, that's what many would believe.
Buffalo Bills Still a Super Bowl Contender
If their offense can do what it did against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers consistently, which there is plenty of evidence to support it can, then teams will not be able to run as often because they will be playing catch-up. Even if they do run the ball well, the concept is that they will eventually have to abandon it, like Tampa did. In which case, they are up against a tough pass defense.
