We're in the middle of one of the most intense heat waves in recent memory, and we're about to hit the crescendo.

It looks like a foregone conclusion that we'll hit the highest temperature for this day considering how quickly we're already approaching that number. While the actual temperature may or may not hit that century high, the temperature it will FEEL like, particularly in the direct sunlight, will be much higher.

Obviously, most WNY counties are seeing a heat advisory in place. That will remain in place until 8PM on Friday.

Fortunately, there is some relief on the horizon. As of right now, Saturday's high is just 79, and we should see thunderstorms that will provide a much-needed cool-off for the entire area. Through Tuesday, we won't see a high temperature above 84 before hitting the 90s again in the middle of next week.

Per Weather.com, these are some of the precautions you should be taking today.

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible.
