Sabres fans worldwide have been rejoicing as the hometown team has done something that seemed nearly impossible to do: break one of the longest streaks of not making the postseason in professional sports.

Now that the Sabres have clinched a playoff berth in the NHL, they have ended their 14-season drought. That leaves the New York Jets of the NFL as the sole holder of the longest streak of missed playoff opportunities in the professional leagues, at 15 seasons, followed by MLB's Los Angeles Angels missing the postseason for 11 seasons, and the NBA's Charlotte Hornets at 9 seasons.

When you really think about it, the Sabres making the playoffs is a major accomplishment, and it's something that the entire Sabres organization, along with all of Buffalo, should be proud of.

Buffalo sports has truly entered a great era with the supremacy of the Buffalo Bandits, the dominance of the Buffalo Bills, and now the Sabres being one of the hottest teams in the NHL. We're truly in a new world, but in more ways than you may think.
