It really does feel like a magical time of year when you finally plug the lights in and your tree glows in the darkness.  That magic returns to downtown this weekend in Buffalo.

There's no question that the holiday season is already underway.  Heck, a lot of people have been shopping since a little before Halloween.  But it's about to become even more official with the lighting of the tree in downtown Buffalo.

The event will start on Saturday (12/4) at Rotary Rink at Fountain Plaza and they have a ton of events planned including fireworks and free skating for the whole family.

The event will begin at 5pm with the countdown to the lighting of the official tree and fireworks over Fountain Plaza at 6pm. There will also be appearances by elected officials and distinguished guest speakers leading up to the big moment.

Santa will be there to visit with the kids from 6:30p to 8p and they will have free horse and wagon rides.

Yes, the skating will be free and they encourage you to bring your own skates for two reasons.  First, it will keep it free for you, and second, you will be able to skip the skate rental line.  Rentals will be available for $2 for children and $3 for adults.

It sounds like an incredible way to kick off the holiday season.  Click here for the facebook event page. And for those of you that are adults, you could start here and end your night with the Santa-Con Bar Crawl.  It's back again after being cancelled last year and it's happening on the same night!
