Regulars all over Western New York will be pouring one out for Edward “Eddie” Brady, owner of the infamous Eddie Brady’s Tavern on Genesee Street, who passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday at the age of 70.

As stated in his obituary, Eddie spent his childhood as a paperboy for Courier Express and went on to be an altar boy and star football player for Cathedral School. He graduated high school in 1969 and went on to serve in the Air Force National Guard during the Vietnam War.

After his service, Eddie went on to work for some of Buffalo’s most iconic local businesses, like Mulligan’s BrickBar in Allentown, Hemingway’s Restaurant, and the Pierce-Arrow Motor Car Company.

Then, in 1990, Eddie opened the iconic Irish pub Eddie Brady’s Tavern at 97 Genesee Street and was introduced to thousands of Buffalonians looking for a cold one along with some friendly conversation and life advice. On multiple review sites, locals have called Eddie Brady’s “a dream come true,” an “unassuming gem,” and “one of my favorite places.” One reviewer from yelp said that after entering Eddie Brady’s she “immediately felt like I was home.”

So many of those glowing, honest, and hilarious sentiments can be attributed to the great guy that Eddie Brady was, and the way he treated his customers and friends. I think my favorite remembrance of Eddie comes from Buffalo’s subreddit, where one Redditor said,

"Wow. Hit that place during my bachelor party. He gave me a few shots on the house and gave me a list of reasons to not get married. Little did I know I should (have) listened to him. RIP.”

We're sending lots of love to Eddie's family, friends, and patrons- especially his brother, Pat, who is now the main face of Eddie Brady's Tavern.

Cheers to you, Eddie. You're a legend, and Buffalo is truly going to miss you.
