Former Sabre Plays the Goat in Los Angeles Kings Rout of Devils [VIDEO]
Any chance the New Jersey Devils had of making a historic comeback in the Stanley Cup Finals was ruined thanks to one time Buffalo Sabre Steve Bernier's massive boarding of the Los Angeles Kings Rob Scuderi. The Kings capitalized on the major and scored 3 first period goals. They never looked back, winning 6-1 and raising the cup for the first time in the team's 45 year history.
Jeff Carter, a late season acquisition for the Kings scored twice, Dustin Brown demonstrated true leadership adding a goal and assist. But it was Bernier's gaffe that set the table for the Kings who completed one of the most remarkable runs in playoff history. The team sat as low as 11th place with only a few weeks left in the season, squeaked into the playoffs and upset the Top 3 seeds in the West on the way to the finals. The run was made possible by Goalie Jonathan Quick's unbelievable playoff performance. He was named the playoffs MVP and was nearly unbeatable in the playoffs and shut down the Devils the entire series.
