Here in Buffalo and Western New York, it's not uncommon to get winter storms. If you have lived and grown up here, commuting to work in the snow and shoveling is just a way of life from December through March and it helps that we're all in it together; that's the mentality that Buffalonians have.

However, there are some winter storms that are worse than most, and this week we will see one of those winter storms.

A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for Erie, Wyoming, and Genesee counties from 7 pm on Wednesday to 7 pm on Thursday.

The hardest hit areas should be from Buffalo into the southtowns and areas off to the east. Believe it or not, anywhere from 12-18 inches of snow is possible and some specific areas might get as much as two feet of snowfall, per Mike Doyle of WIVB.

The winds will be another problem. Gusts of 40 mph are likely and with the heavy, lake effect snow, we are likely to see white-out conditions and nearly impossible driving conditions for regions under the lake effect snow band.

1-2 inches of snow will fall in this lake effect snow band, so it's definitely about as bad as lake effect snow can get for us.

To add insult to injury, we are going to see more general snowfall on Friday for Western New York.

If you don't have anywhere to be on Thursday, it's probably a good idea to stay home and if you do have to travel, leave a lot of extra time and be extra careful out there.
