Date Set To Elect Buffalo’s Next Representative in Congress
Towards the end of 2023, it was announced that the long-term Congress representative for Buffalo and Western New York would step down after nearly 20 years in office.
Brian Higgins, who has stepped down to become the CEO of Shea's Buffalo, represented the 716 for two decades, and now that he has vacated his seat, the office needs to be filled.
There has been much speculation about who would take over, and now we're one step closer to finding out.
Date For Congressional Special Election Is Set for New York 26
Late on Monday, February 12, 2024, New York Governor Hochul announced that the special election to replace Higgins in Congress would happen on Tuesday, April 30, 2024.

Several people are vying for the office. The Erie County Democrats have endorsed Tim Kennedy for the seat, and several others have made their intentions known.
2024 Is Going To Be A Busy Year For Elections
The announcement that the special election will take place on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, just adds another wrinkle to what is shaping up to be a very busy year for elections.
So far, the following elections are set for this year:
- Presidential Primary Election - April 2, 2024
- Congressional Special Election - April 30, 2024
- State/Local Primary Election - June 25, 2024
- General Election - November 5, 2024
It looks like democracy is hard at work; let's hope people are ready to participate.
