July 1st was the start of free agency for the NHL, and the Buffalo Sabres were one of the busier teams in the league, making several signings and trades.

Buffalo Sabres Make Several Moves To Start Free Agency

One of the biggest moves the Sabres made yesterday was trading away Devon Levi, who was once considered the goaltender of the future for the club. Levi came to Buffalo from Florida in 2024 as part of the trade for Sam Reinhart.

Levi played most of his career in Rochester, for the Amerks, but did play in 39 games for the Sabres. He has an NHL career record of 17-17-2 with a 3.29 goals-against average.

In exchange for Levi and a 7th-round draft pick in the 2028 NHL draft, the Buffalo Sabres got a 3rd-round draft pick in the 2028 NHL draft.

Buffalo Sabres Sign Several Players On Opening Day Of Free Agency

Besides the trade of Levi, the Buffalo Sabres signed several players to new deals. The Sabres announced they signed 4 players to deals

The Sabres signed forward Conor Sheary and defenseman Dennis Gilbert to one-way contracts worth $850,000. This is a return to Buffalo for Sheary.

The Buffalo Sabres have also signed forwards Trevor Kuntar and Jason Polin to two-way contracts. Kuntar signed a 2 year deal, while Polin signed a one-year deal.

I have a feeling that the Sabres are not done making moves. They have around $8 million dollars in cap space left ahead of the upcoming season.
