Massive Lottery Changes Could Mean Millions For You In New York
Normally changes happen and it means that you'll have less of a chance to win. Not only will you have better chances, but the jackpot could be even bigger!
It's hard to believe jackpots could get even bigger in the lottery. We've seen record jackpots that top out near $1 billion, but some big changes aim to do just that.
These changes start as soon as next week. On April 8th, the Mega Millions lottery announced that the price of one ticket would be changed from $2 to $5. That's the bad news. The good news is that it is going to change both the odds of winning and also the amount of the average jackpot.
Your odds of winning will go up
The price change won't necessarily change your odds of winning. However, they're going to remove one of the gold Mega Balls from the drawing. Instead of having 25 Mega Balls, they will now only have 24. Experts say that will increase your odds of winning the jackpot from 1 in 302.6 million to 1 in 290.5 million. Even if you don't win the jackpot, your odds of winning any prize will increase from 1 in 24 to 1 in 23. It's a small improvement, but an improvement nonetheless.
The jackpot is about to go up
You can imagine that more than doubling the price of the ticket will increase the jackpots too. For now, the starting jackpot is at $20 million. Increasing the price of the ticket will begin the jackpot at $50 million. They're claiming that it will increase the average jackpot to around $800 million. That's the average!

The lottery will always remind you that the odds are still against the players. It's very difficult to win these prizes and you should only bet what you can afford to lose.
