There is breaking news this afternoon coming in from multiple news outlets that 2 people have been shot at McKinley High School on Elmwood Avenue in Buffalo. One of the victims is reportedly a student. The other is a security guard. The guard is reported to be in stable condition. The student's condition is unknown. They were taken to Oishei Children's Hospital.

Police are on the scene and searching for the shooter. A helicopter has been deployed and is scanning the area.

Please avoid the area as it has been shut down for the investigation.

UPDATE 9:35 pm

A spokesperson from the Buffalo Police Department has informed us that the 14-year-old student who was injured was in fact stabbed, and not shot. The student is out of surgery and is recovering. It has been confirmed that the school security officer was shot during the incident.

UPDATE 7:55 pm

Law enforcement officials from the Buffalo Police Department, Erie County Sheriff's Office, New York State Police, and FBI are conducting a search for the suspect. An Erie County Sheriff's helicopter is continuing to search the area as well. Investigators are requesting any information from the community regarding the shooting and/or the suspect. Also, officials are not releasing any details regarding the suspect at this time.

Most students who were on lockdown within McKinley High School have been released to their parents and/or guardians.

UPDATE 6:27 pm

During a live press conference in front of McKinley High School, Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown confirmed that the shooting occurred outside of McKinley near the parking lot on the south side of the building. Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, are involved with the investigation and search for the suspect.

Buffalo Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Kriner Cash has announced that McKinley is going to be 'reset in a phased approach' and will switch to remote learning for at least the next 3 school days. Depending on how conditions develop at McKinley, students may not return to campus until February 28, 2022. The BPS will continue to review and evaluate conditions over the next few days.

Buffalo Police have cleared the building and have started to arrange to reunite the approximately 100 students who were sheltering in place within the building with their parents and/or guardians. Officials continue to ask the public to stay away from the area as they search for the suspect.

Buffalo Police say the student who was shot is currently undergoing surgery at Oishei Children's Hospital. They currently do not have anyone in custody.

There are 100 students inside McKinley High School right now on lockdown. Parents are being contacted.

There is breaking news this afternoon coming in from multiple news outlets that 2 people have been shot at McKinley High School. One of the victims is reportedly a student.

According to the Tonawanda Fire Alert the shooter is still at large and SWAT has been called to the scene.

According to a channel 2 reporter, the school is in lockdown.
