These 11 New York State Counties Have Most Registered Sex Offenders [List]
Governor Kathy Hochul recently issued a proclamation declaring April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month in New York State. In addition, two organizations - New York State Coalition Against Sexual Assault and the New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault - that are working to stop sexual assaults on college campuses across the state have been given an Enough is Enough Training and Technical Assistance Center grant of $750,000.
Gov. Hochul said,
Eradicating sexual assault starts with changing the culture—encouraging conversations that bring the gravity of these issues to light, promoting our collective responsibility to protect others, and creating an environment that makes survivors feel safe.
In New York, a sex offender must register his or her name, all aliases, birth date, sex, race, height, weight, eye color, driver's license number, home address and/or place where they will reside, and internet accounts with internet access providers with the Division of Criminal Justice Services. Each offender is also photographed and fingerprinted. The state uses three levels to designate sex offenders in the state:
