Alarming Number Of Flu Cases Reported Across New York State
Flu cases have been surging this year across Western New York and the number of cases so far this year is alarming.
New York State has developed a Flu Tracker website and you can see that the amount of positive flu cases is much higher so far in 2022 than it was last year.
Last year at this time according to the New York State Health Department there are 169 confirmed cases of the flu.
This year there have been 3,476 confirmed cases of the flu. That is 20 times more cases of the flu this year than last.
So far this year in New York State there have been 6,675 confirmed cases of the flu.
The majority of the cases of the flu have been Type A influenza. Out of the 6,675 reported cases of the flu, 2986 have been Type A.
194 cases have been Type B influenza and 298 cases have were not specific.

Here are some of the symptoms of the flu:
- Fever or feeling feverish/having chills.
- Cough.
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing.
- Fatigue (tiredness)
- Sore throat.
- Runny or stuffy nose.
- Muscle pain or body aches.
- Headache.
Health officials in New York are encouraging everyone who is eligible to get a flu shot this year. You can get a flu shot at your doctor's office or most pharmacies like CVS or Rite Aid.
Most insurance also covers the cost of the shot so you should have to pay nothing out of pocket for the flu shot.
