How safe is New York State as a place to live? I'm sure there will be tons of opinions coming from New Yorkers and non-New Yorkers, alike. But when it comes down to facts and statistics, WalletHub actually conducted a study to determine the safest and most dangerous states in America.

In order to determine the safest states in America, WalletHub compared the 50 states across 53 key safety indicators grouped into five different categories. Our data set ranges from the percentage of residents who are fully vaccinated to assaults per capita and the unemployment rate.

While outsiders generally think of New York State as just New York City, we residents know that there are urban areas and there are also many rural areas.  In that sense safety might be looked at in different ways. In a big city, you might have the threat of violent crime, but in a rural area, you could have the threat of nature, like ticks, snakes, or bears. By no means am I saying the statistical threat is the same, I'm just pointing out that the things that pose a danger are different, but there is still risk involved in living in both the country and the city.
