Buffalo Sabres Odds to Win the 2023 Stanley Cup
The Colorado Avalanche captured their 3rd Stanley Cup in franchise history last night. Is it a sign that the Buffalo Sabres could be on their way to their first?
Five years ago, the Avalanche had an NHL-worst 48 points. 21 points away from the team in front of them, the 29th place Vancouver Canucks.
Sabres Twitter this morning is looking at that stat as a sign that it could finally be the time for the up-and-coming Sabres to bring the cup to Buffalo.
With the cup barely out of its case, it's time to take a way too early look at the Stanley Cup odds for the upcoming 2022-2023 season.
The oddsmakers at BetMGM think that the smart money goes on Colorado to repeat as NHL champions at +450. The evil Toronto Maple Leafs hold down the second-best odds at +850. The runner-up in this year's finals, the Tampa Bay Lightning sit in 3rd at +900. The rest of the top six slots belong to the Florida Panthers (+1,000), Carolina Hurricanes (+1,200), and Las Vegas Golden Knights (+1,400).
Our hometown Sabres have inched their way up the list this year, and sit in 19th place at +5000 (2021 odds - +10,000 - 23rd place). So in short, Vegas thinks that the Sabres are a fringe playoff team heading into the 2022 offseason.
The Seattle Kraken (+12,500), Montreal Canadiens (+15,000) and Phoenix Coyotes (+50,000) currently have the worst odds for the cup next season.
Next up on the offseason calendar is the NHL Draft on July 7th and 8th. Buffalo holds three total selections in the first round: its own pick at ninth overall, the 16th overall pick from the Golden Knights, and the 28th pick from the Panthers when the draft gets underway at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec.
