Strong Chance Former Bills QB Makes First Career Start
There's a strong chance that a former Buffalo Bills Quarterback will be making his first NFL start this Sunday. Jake Fromm, a 2020 fifth-round draft choice of the Bills, might be lining up under center as the starting quarterback for the injury-riddled New York Giants this Sunday in Los Angeles, against the Chargers.
The Giant's incumbent starting Quarterback Daniel Jones has been sidelined with a neck injury and has yet to be medically cleared to play this weekend. His backup, veteran journeyman Mike Glennon is currently in the NFL's concussion protocol after sustaining a concussion against the Miami Dolphins in last week's game.
Enter Jake Fromm. The Giants signed Fromm off of the Bills practice squad on December 1st, and now because of all the injuries, he is the next man up for the Giants this weekend, after only 11 days with the team.
Fromm had a standout career for the University of Georgia, throwing for 7,236 yards, 78 Touchdowns, and just 18 interceptions over his three seasons with the Bulldogs. In January of 2020, Fromm announced his intention to skip his senior season at Georgia, having declared for the NFL Draft. The Bills selected Fromm in the 5th round to serve as one of the backups for Josh Allen. Fromm never appeared in a regular-season game for the Bills, but he did appear in three pre-season contests, going 21 of 36, for 172 yards, with 0 touchdowns and 0 interceptions, and a QBR of 70.6
New York Giants coach Joe Judge had this to say about his new QB:
To add to the whirlwind week that Fromm has experienced so far with his new team, the Giants also announced that Fromm's new QB coach Jerry Schuplinski, tested positive for COVID-19. If he does wind up getting his first start this weekend, Fromm will have a crazy story to tell years from now.
