Employees of Target won't be too thankful this year.

The retailer will be opening its doors this Thanksgiving (November 22) at 9 p.m., rather than on Black Friday like it has in the past. This is the most crucial shopping season of the year, and stores are constantly competing to have the best deals and times to get people in the doors.

From a business standpoint, yes, it could be a good move, especially with Walmart opening at 8 p.m., but what about the employees?

If the store is opening at 9 p.m., many employees have to arrive by 7 p.m. to set up and adjust marketing. So now they have less time to spend with their families, let alone digest their meals, before fighting the crowds. Employees have signed a petition to change opening time next year back to Black Friday; so far, it has 150,000 signatures.

Casey St. Clair, a Corona, Calif. Target employee who started the petition said, "Having Thanksgiving off really does give me that one day to relax and visit family I otherwise have no time to see."

Target stated that they thought long and hard about this decision, and 9 p.m. seems the most fair between business and employees.

Target is not the only store opening early on Thanksgiving. Walmart and Sears are opening at 8 p.m. K-mart opens on Thanksgiving 6 a.m. until 4 p.m, then will close and reopen at 8 p.m.until 3 a.m. Many others stores are opening at midnight as well.

So is there such a thing as Black Friday anymore, or is it now going to be called Black Thanksgiving? While your eating Thanksgiving dinner this year (if you're not out shopping), just be thankful you're not working the craziness.
