The New York State Department of Health has issued a warning for people with potential cardiac issues.

It’s February, and in New York State, that means winter is making its final push of the season. Over the past few years, winter weather has been relatively mild. While there were plenty of snow storms and cold weather, overall, it was nothing compared to what residents are used to. However, this winter has been a return to what many know. There has been persistent snow and very cold temperatures since December, and February has not given anyone a break from it.

As the state is under another winter weather advisory, health officials are sending out a warning that could mean life or death for certain people.

Urgent Warning From the Department of Health in New York

The New York State Department of Health issues this warning on the X, formerly Twitter, account.

With the snow and cold weather, most New Yorkers are expected to get, it’s important for people who could be at risk to take precautions.

What To Do If You Are at Risk

It can be hard, though, for people to clear their sidewalks and driveways. For those of you with elderly family, friends, and neighbors who are not at risk, consider giving them a hand and shoveling their areas for them. If that’s not an option, there are services, like the Plowz and Mowz app, through which you can hire on-demand snow removal. It’s not always cheap, but it’s better than putting yourself or the ones you love at risk.

My advice, if you have to clear your driveway and walkways, is to take your time. No reason to rush and over-exert yourself. There’s also no reason to be ashamed or embarrassed if you are someone with a condition that could be at risk. These things happen, and, honestly, even people in shape can struggle moving snow. It’s a hard job! Don’t overdo it, just take it a little at a time. Also, don’t be stubborn: ask for help!
