It’s that time of year again for the holiday that is so uniquely celebrated in Buffalo, with wing deals at pretty much every bar and restaurant…at least in some capacity.

(I even saw chocolate chicken wings at the locally owned King Condrell’s candy and ice cream shop in Kenmore.)

Chocolate is sweet (pun intended) and chicken wings may be delicious, but this year, you may want to consider other wing options before you plunge into your poultry.

Yes, I am talking about vegan wings.

Hear. Me. Out. I am just looking out for you, because the more meat you consume, the more likely you are to experience heart and circulatory problems, according to the British Heart Foundation

JAMA Internal Medicine published their research, which found the links of “a higher intake of processed meat, unprocessed red meat, or poultry was associated with a small increased risk of coronary heart disease, stroke, heart failure, and death related to heart and circulatory disease.’'

Red meat is more of a concern than poultry when it comes to cardiac health, and while you can eat chicken wings if you want to celebrate in Buffalo style, you should be aware that there is another option.

Vegan poultry is available locally, and while it can be made of a variety of ingredients, it is usually a healthier alternative to regular chicken meat.

You may think it’s dumb. You may not understand the whole “vegan,” thing, but I encourage you to at least try it sometime, because it tastes surprisingly close to the real thing and it is better for the body.

If you don’t try, you’ll never know how good vegan wings really are.

Strong Hearts, a 100% vegan restaurant that recently opened in Buffalo, has vegan wings available, so if you’re not sure where to get a vegan wing, you can get an order of them at Strong Hearts on Niagara Street! You can learn more about them here
