This Is The Worst Part Of Playing WORDLE

Have you been bitten by the Wordle bug? It seems that when I scroll my Twitter feed or look on Facebook, all I see are the yellow, green, and grey boxes.

If you are like me, and your circle of friends here in Western New York started posting these images to your daily feed, you too were bit by the curiosity bug. "What is Wordle?" I said to myself. So I searched, found the website, and was hooked.

For those of you not familiar, Wordle is a web-based word puzzle game, not an app (Shocker in the year 2022!), that was developed by a chap across the pond in England. In short, you have six chances to guess a five-letter word. Sounds simple enough right. Well, it gets a little more complex. You start by guessing any five-letter word, and then the game gives you feedback based on your guess.

Yellow tiles = The letter is in the puzzle, but not in that position.

Green Tiles = You guessed a correct letter and position.

Grey Tile = You suck, and the letter you guessed isn't in the puzzle at all.

For the most part, I like the game. It's addicting, and I have been back every day since I started playing. But there is one thing the folks at Wordle do that grinds my gears, and it's hidden right there in plain sight.

If you look at the game's explanation screen on how to play, there within lies my one complaint about the game.

DOUBLE LETTERS!

They are the absolute worst. In the example above, you could guess the letter "L" by using the word LOVER. The game would then show you a Yellow "L", meaning that you had correctly guessed that letter. And if your mind works like mine, the "L" then goes out of your mind as a future guess because you already guessed "L". If the Wordle for the day was "PILLS" I would have racked my brain for hours before I came back to the second "L".
