As I was riding in my car to pick up my order from Joe's Deli on Hertel Avenue, I realized how many great restaurants are on it. Hertel Avenue has a nice sampling of the best of what Buffalo offers in food. You could park your car and walk up and down Hertel, creating your own mini Taste of Buffalo, stopping at the different restaurants to try a little of this and a little of that. Although this isn't everything that is highly-rated on Hertel, this list will get you started with a few spots to try. All of these restaurants have a 4-star Google rating or better. There are a few "ethnic" spots, some American cuisine, and some specialty offerings, like poutine. On a nice spring or summer day, especially when the spots that have outdoor dining open it up, it's a great place to spend time with the family.

Out of the spots listed here, I've had India Gate. They are usually a vendor at the Taste of Buffalo. If you like Indian food or want to try it, their food is delicious. I love that they offer vegetarian and vegan-friendly options. Je Ne Sais Quoi is another of the spots that I've had. It's a Black-owned soul food restaurant with amazing food. And as I mentioned above, I've had Joe's Deli.
