The Buffalo Bills announced on Tuesday that they've added 14-year veteran quarterback Derek Anderson to the 53-man roster.  He spent the past seven seasons with the Carolina Panthers and has worked as a backup and mentor to quarterback Cam Newton and is expected to fill the same role with the Bills.

There had been some talk that the Bills were looking to add a veteran quarterback to the roster to help in the development of Josh Allen.  After Sunday's game against the Titans Allen was asked about being able to have a veteran to lean on during games and he said he would welcome the move.  It puts the status of Nathan Peterman in question, but for now Peterman is remaining with the Bills.

Anderson was originally drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in 2005, then spent five seasons with Cleveland and one with Arizona before being acquired by the Panthers in 2011.  He was named to the Pro Bowl after leading the Browns to a 10-6 record in 2007.  He appeared in 25 games for the Panthers with four starts.

To make room on the roster the Bills released safety Dean Marlowe - an interesting move since Marlowe started at strong safety for the Bills in Sunday's win over Tennessee.
