There have been rumors that the Bills are looking to move up in the first round.  They could take a look to find a new CB to replace the departed Levi Wallace.  Maybe they'll look to beef up the Offensive Line.  Or maybe add another weapon to the WR corps to complement the newly extended Stefon Diggs.

Whatever they do in the first round, it's the later rounds of the draft where the roster depth is built and fortified.  The Bills have uncovered some late-round gems in the past.

Today, marking three days until the draft, we take a look at the best players that they have drafted in the 3rd round of the NFL Draft.  The 3rd round has not been historical kind to the Bills.  There have been notable swings and misses on players like; Adolphus Washington, T.J. Graham, Chris Ellis, and Ashton Youboty.

But, more recently, the team has hit on a few picks in the 3rd round.

4. QB - Trent Edwards - Stanford (2007): He took over for an inured JP Losman in his rookie year, and led the Bills to a 5-1 start.  He lasted 4 years in Buffalo, earning the nickname "Captain Checkdown" along the way. He had a final record of 14-19 as the Bills' starter, throwing for 6033 yards, completing 60.6% of his passes, and throwing 26 TDs and 30 INTs.

3. RB - Devin Singletary - FAU (2019):   As a rookie, Singletary was thrown into the mix with a group of veteran RBs including  LeSean McCoy, and Frank Gore.  After McCoy was cut, his role increased.  Now the starting RB for the team, he has racked up 2,332 yards and 11TDs on the ground, adding another 691 yards and 3 TDs receiving.

2. TE - Dawson Knox - Ole Miss (2019):  An unheralded prospect out of Ole Miss, Knox was selected 96th by the Bills in the 3rd round of the 2019 draft.  After a mostly quiet first two seasons with the team, Knox exploded into upper-tier TE status in 2021, becoming a favorite Red Zone target of Josh Allen.  Knox put up a stat line of 49 catches/587 yards/9 TDs in 2021, doubling the total stats of his first two seasons.

1. DT - Harrison Philips - Stanford (2018):   "Horrible Harry" was another 3rd round pick by the Bills out of Stanford that actually panned out.  He played out his entire four-year rookie contract with the Bills, becoming a fan favorite along the way.  A stout run defender, Phillips notched 107 tackles, 47 assists, and 1.5 sacks during his four years in Buffalo, which was good enough to get him a three-year, $19.5 million contract with the Minnesota Vikings in free agency this offseason.  The Bills Mafia showed their support and thanks to Phillips by continuing to support his non-profit charity after he left for Minnesota.
