Buffalo Bills sign one of the Top Rated TE Prospects

Prior to the 2021 college football season, he was considered by many the top Tight End prospect in the 2022 draft class.  Now, he is a member of the Buffalo Bills.

Texas A&M's Jalen Wydermyer was widely considered the top Tight End prospect in the nation by many leading into the 2021 college football season. A 6-foot-5, 255lb beast of a target who was a pass-catching machine was primed to be TE1 off the board in this year's draft.  But after a sub-par season for the Aggies, his stock slipped to the point where he wasn't drafted at all.

Enter Brandon Beane and company.

They pounced at the chance to add Wydermyer to a Tight End room that already has Dawson Knox coming off a breakout 2021 season (49 receptions/587 yards/9 TDs) and free-agent addition O.J. Howard, who had a down 2021 season but solid career numbers (119 receptions, 1,737 yards, 15 TDs).

Wydermyer's size and ability to make contested catches make him an intriguing red zone option.  He handles his own in the run game as well as in pass blocking, taking on Defensive End's regular without issue.

After the catch, he has also flashed the ability to bounce off tacklers and gain valuable YAC.

Timm Hamm wrote in Sports Illustrated:

After being passed up in the draft, Wydermyer will have to play with a chip on his shoulder to make the squad in Buffalo, and he'll need a big camp and preseason.

Making the final roster won't be easy for Wydermyer, but with the hype that surrounded him leading into the 2021 college season, he is definitely worth taking the flyer as an undrafted free agent signing, with a chance to become TE3 for the Bills.
