One Great Football Movie Scene Recreated by The Buffalo Bills
When it comes to classic football movies, the usual suspects are always brought up. Rudy, Remember the Titans, We Are Marshall, and.....The Replacements
We said what we said. When Rolling Stone ranked their 10 best football movies of all time, there was one glaring omission from their list.
The Waterboy' (1998), ‘Necessary Roughness' (1991), ‘We Are Marshall' (2006), 'Undefeated' (2011), ‘Any Given Sunday' (1999), 'Remember the Titans' (2000), ‘The Longest Yard' (1974), 'Brian's Song' (1971), ‘Friday Night Lights' (2004), and 'Rudy' (1993) are all great football movies without a doubt, but The Replacements is a classic that should not be forgotten.
The 2000 comedy classic starred Keanu Reeves, Gene Hackman, Brooke Langton, Rhys Ifans, Jon Favreau, and Jack Warden and was loosely based on the 1987 NFL strike, specifically the Washington Redskins.
I would like to go on record to say that the Washington Football Team dropped the ball when choosing their new name. They should have gone with "The Washington Sentinels" instead of the "Washington Commanders" (Insert Sad Trombone).
Anyway, back to the movie. The Replacements, in short, is the story of a football league going on strike, and replacement, or scab players, taking the jobs of the real players, and leading a franchise to an improbable season.
Our hero Quarterback Shane Falco (played by Keanu Reeves) throws a game-winning touchdown pass as time expires, earning the Sentinels a playoff berth. And then, the following classic dance scene breaks out.
And if you haven't seen it before, you need to put your eyes on the Buffalo Bills doing their best Washington Sentinels impression.
