Buffalo Bills Have The Most Touchdowns Taken Away
This stat is frustrating and tells of the team’s success over the last five seasons.
The Buffalo Bills have been a force in the NFL since Josh Allen emerged as a top quarterback in the NFL. He doesn't get all the accolades, of course. Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane built this team and drafted Allen. Since then, they have won 5 straight AFC East Division Titles while being one of the top offenses in the league each season.
With success comes some interesting stats, though, and this one will both anger fans in the Bills Mafia and show them just how successful the team really is.
Buffalo Bills Have Had The Most Touchdowns Taken Away
According to Dov Kleiman on X (@NFL_DovKleiman), over the past 5 seasons, no team has had more Touchdowns taken away by penalties than the Buffalo Bills. They’ve had 16 taken away, three more than the next-highest team, which is the Kansas City Chiefs.
This chart is interesting to me for a lot of reasons. Yes, it shows you the opportunities lost, but I see it as showing the potency of the offense. They’ve scored so many times that they lead the league in this stat, which is one, as you can see, is dominated at the top by mostly good offenses. The Bills, Chiefs, and Eagles have all been very potent on offense and successful. Only the Bills have not made the Super Bowl during this stretch, and that’s because they are playing against the Chiefs. Also in the top 10 are the 49ers, Bengals, and Lions—all great teams with good offenses.
Of course, it’s a bit frustrating because for the Bills, that’s 16 TDs they could have had. Penalties have been an issue for the team over the past 5 seasons, as they have been among the top 10 most penalized teams in 3 of the past 5 seasons. With one game to go, the Bills currently rank as the 13th most penalized this year.
It’s an interesting stat, but the only ones that Bills fans care about right now are wins. They’ll need four wins in a row to get their first Super Bowl victory this season. That does not start this week against New England, as the Bills will likely rest most of their starters. They have locked in the #2 seed and have nothing to play for in the final week.
