The Buffalo Sabres are less than two weeks away from the start of 2021-2022 regular season. Buffalo will host the Montreal Canadiens at KeyBank Center on Thursday, October 14th.

The Sabres are not exactly a juggernaut in the NHL right now, and you probably would have assumed that anyway.

Gone from the roster are goaltender Linus Ullmark, defenseman Jake McCabe, and forward Sam Reinhart. Sabres former captain Jack Eichel still wants a trade out of Buffalo and failed his physical, due to his neck injury which requires surgery -- it's just that the Sabres medical staff and Eichel's team can't decide on which procedure to get. He's likely played his last game in Buffalo.

The roster is extremely young and will rely on the likes of Casey Mittelstadt, Dylan Cozens, Rasmus Dahlin and Victor Olofsson.

What are the Sabres odds to make the playoffs though? Well, considering they haven't made the playoffs since 2011 and finished dead last the season prior, probably not good.

That is the case: the Sabres odds to make the playoffs are +1500, according to The Score. That's tied for the worst odds in the NHL, with the Anaheim Ducks, Arizona Coyotes, and Ottawa Senators.

Needless to say, most fans would be very surprised if the Sabres made the playoffs in 2022. The goal of this season is to grow the young core and try and stay competitive. Not finishing last should be a goal this season. It's tough to perform any worse than what the Sabres did under former head coach Ralph Krueger last season.
