St. Patrick's Day is just around the corner, and here in Western New York, we are known as one of the best cities in the country when it comes to celebrating the day.

But that begs the question, just how Irish is Buffalo?  Well, it turns out the answer is VERY!

To mark Irish-American Heritage Month and St. Patrick’s Day, the website LawnStarter ranked 2022’s Most Irish Cities in America. And Buffalo checked in at #11 on the list of most Irish Cities.

They looked at the 200 largest cities in the US-based on the size of their Irish population, and then took into account several other factors like the number of Irish restaurants and pubs.  They also looked at the St. Patrick's Day festivities, Irish cultural events, Irish cultural groups, Irish Dance schools, and networking associations.

Out of the 200 cities they looked at, here is how Buffalo compared to the rest in some key metrics.

  • Share of Irish Population - 25th
  • Number of Irish Cultural Meetup Groups - 10th
  • Number of State Irish Organizations - 7th
  • Number of Irish Restaurants and Bars - 21st
  • Number of St. Patrick's Day and Other Irish Cultural Events - 21st
