This is the time of the year where we as Western New Yorkers break out the sweatshirts and sweaters. We look forward to football on Thursdays through Monday. Comfort food is king and if it's almost impossible to avoid anything with pumpkin or apple spice.

It's also a great time to really enjoy and appreciate Mother Nature in all her colorful splendor. However, there may be sad news for all you "Leafers". No, I am not talking about you Toronto Maple Leaf fans, I am talking fans of the changing foliage or lovers of the leaves changing. This season may be short and sweet so you may want to keep an eye on the trees and their leaves.

According to WGRZ the new narrative for climate change is now affecting how the trees and their leaves will react to extreme conditions. Too hot, too cold, too dry, too wet. All play factors in anything that resides outside I suppose right?

So not only do we need to worry about the polar bears, polar ice caps, wildfires, sea turtles, and straws. It looks like the leaves on the trees and brush on the bush are in jeopardy of not being able to die with dignity. Or at least go out in a vibrant last-ditch effort to show off their colorful blazes of glory. Red, yellow, orange, and purple oh my.

Like David Lee Roth once sang: "Here today, gone later today". So don't blink or you may miss it.
