5 Throwback School Supplies That Buffalo Loves
As we all prepare for the end of summer in Western New York and the need to get ready for fall, that also means that all of our little ones are just about set to go back to school.
As we get ready to go back to school, that also means we need to deal with the endless items on your kids back to school supply list.

I don't know about you and your kids, but I have seen some truly ridiculous school supply lists. Luckily for me, this year, my son's school supply list for 6th grade is pretty tame. He only needs to bring:
- Small manual pencil sharpener
- 1 Pack of pens (black or blue only)
- 1 Pack of sharpened pencils
- 1 Pack pencil top erasers
- 1 Pencil Case
- Colored pencils (12 packs)
- (6) 3-Ring 1-inch binder (Preferably white)
- 1-2 Glue sticks
That list is more than manageable and I was able to get him all set for the first day of school. But going through getting his supplies ready got me thinking about some of my favorite school supplies from back in the day.
I used to love going back to school shopping, there were some things I had to have regardless of if they were on my supply list or not.
Here are 5 Throwback School Supplies that Buffalo Loves and Had to Have!
A Trapper Keeper
This was the single most important school supply you could have, regardless if it was on your list or not. I remember there being contests between kids in lunch to see who had the best Trapper Keeper.
Thermos Lunch Box
Right after we were done comparing Trapper Keeprs at lunch, we then started to actually eat lunch. But if you didn't have the metal Thermos lunch box with your favorite show or character on it, were you really even in school? You got bonus kudos if you had the official Thermos bottle to match.
Shuttle Pen / Multicolor Pen
These pens didn't work well at all, and when they did work, they didn't last very long. But if you had one of these, you were one of the coolest kids in class. However, don't let anyone borrow your pen because you'd never see it again.
Scented Markers
You didn't know if you wanted to color with these, or eat them, but scented markers were a must-have. We had the entire classroom smelling like watermelon, apple, orange, grape, and banana.
Jansport Backpack
There were backpacks and then there were BACKPACKS. This Jansport backpack was the latter. You would be transporting your lunchbox, Trapper Keeper, pens, and markers in style with this bag. We may have to get a new one just for old times' sake.
