WNY Could Have Limits On Thanksgiving and Christmas Gatherings

Thanksgiving is less than three weeks away, while Christmas is less than seven weeks out. Unfortunately, we're still very much dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, and those holidays could be impacted even more than you think.

According to Syracuse.com, Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz told The Buffalo News today that they may say "no" to extended family gatherings for Thanksgiving and holidays beyond.

“If this continues, we’re going to have to say, ‘No Thanksgiving except for your immediate family,’” said Poloncarz. “You can have your immediate family, but if you’re bringing people from outside the area, shame on you because you’re going to get people sick. Same with Christmas and Hanukkah and the rest of the seasons, Kwanzaa. You cannot get together with individuals from outside your immediate family without putting your family at risk."

Poloncarz added that he knows people don't want to hear that but if there's a family member driving from downstate, that's probably not a good idea.

Erie County's positive COVID-19 rate was 6.3 percent this Saturday, which was 259 new cases of COVID-19.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is expected to make an announcement today regarding how they're going to combat the virus here in the Western New York region.
